SEA GOING (LAUNCHING) CARGO BARGES

About the application of InTank™ on Sea going (launching) Cargo Barges

Together with principal partner Scienco®/FAST InTank™, Marship Engineering has been involved in the turn-key supply of the ballast water treatment systems for Saipem Barge S44. Saipem is a technological and engineering platform that is advanced in design, construction and operation of complex infrastructures and plants. Specifically, for the Saipem S44 that is a sea going heavy lift barge, InTank™ BWTS was selected.

With the InTank™ ballast water treatment system it is possible to have preferred timing of treatment just before voyage (tow). The bulk chemical version enables treatment alongside without restrictions. Another benefit of the InTank™ is the ability to select specific tank for water ballast treatment and discharge in accordance with load plan. As compared to external alternatives of ballast water treatment solutions, that are often found as costly projects and difficult to re-locate, the InTank™ BWTS is a great solution and application.

Typical specification outline for sea going heavy lift barges is as follows;

  • Number of water ballast tanks: 35 to 56
  • Water ballast volumes in place: 40.000 m³
  • Number of ballast pumps: 2
  • Flow rate (per pump): Avg. 2000 m³/hour
  • Transit water ballast volumes: 10.000 m³
